True Bugs of Zihuatanejo

SUBORDER HETEROPTERA

Red-shouldered Bug

Jadera haematoloma

Jadera haematoloma, also known as red-shouldered bugs, are flattened insects about 1/2 inch long and 1/3 inch wide. They are black, bluish-black or brownish-black with red coloring on the eyes, eye orbits, shoulders and borders of the abdomen. Adults and larvae tend to feed in groups, and the preferred diet is developing seeds and fruits of their favoured hosts, but will also suck sap from foliage, flowers, buds, or oozing stems.
