The family Furnariidae, commonly known as the ovenbirds and woodcreepers, is one of the largest and most diverse families of birds in the Neotropics, comprising more than 300 species distributed from Mexico through Central and South America to Tierra del Fuego. Members of this family occupy an extraordinary variety of habitats, including tropical rainforests, cloud forests, dry woodlands, grasslands, marshes, deserts, and high Andean environments. Furnariids are generally small to medium-sized birds with brown, rufous, grey, or olive plumage that provides effective camouflage in their surroundings.
