Pigeons and Doves of Zihuatanejo

FAMILY COLUMBIDAE

Family Columbidae is the pigeon and dove family, a widespread group of birds found on every continent except Antarctica and on many oceanic islands. Members of this family range from small, delicate doves to large, robust pigeons, but all share a compact body, small head, short neck, and relatively slender bill with a fleshy cere at its base. Columbids inhabit a wide variety of environments, including forests, grasslands, deserts, agricultural areas, and cities. They primarily feed on seeds, fruits, grains, and occasionally small invertebrates, often foraging on the ground or in trees.
