The family Trogonidae, commonly known as the trogons, is a family of colourful forest birds found in tropical and subtropical regions. Trogons are medium-sized birds characterized by their compact bodies, large heads, short necks, broad bills, and long tails. Many species display striking plumage, with brilliant combinations of green, blue, red, yellow, and iridescent metallic hues. They typically inhabit mature forests, woodlands, and forest edges, where they perch quietly in the canopy or mid-story, often remaining motionless for long periods. Trogons feed primarily on insects, fruits, and small vertebrates, capturing prey by sallying from a perch.
