Suborder Auchenorrhyncha comprises a diverse group of sap-feeding insects within the order Hemiptera that includes cicadas, leafhoppers, treehoppers, planthoppers, froghoppers (spittlebugs), and related families. They feed by piercing plant tissues and extracting sap with specialized mouthparts. Many possess powerful hind legs adapted for jumping or strong wings for rapid flight.
