The suborder Heteroptera, commonly known as the true bugs, is the largest and most diverse suborder within the order Hemiptera, comprising more than 40,000 described species worldwide. Members of Heteroptera are characterized by their specialized piercing-sucking mouthparts and distinctive forewings, known as hemelytra, which are thickened and leathery near the base and membranous at the tips. True bugs occupy an extraordinary range of habitats, including forests, grasslands, deserts, wetlands, freshwater environments, coastal areas, and even the open ocean. Their feeding habits are equally diverse, encompassing plant feeding, seed feeding, predation, scavenging, and blood feeding.
