​The family Vireonidae, commonly known as the vireos and allies, is a family of small to medium-sized songbirds found primarily in the Americas, with most species occurring in North, Central, and South America. Vireos are typically compact birds with sturdy bodies, relatively large heads, and slightly hooked bills adapted for gleaning insects from leaves and branches. Their plumage is generally subdued, featuring shades of olive, green, gray, yellow, and white that provide effective camouflage in forest and woodland habitats. Most species inhabit forests, woodlands, scrublands, and forest edges, where they forage methodically among foliage for insects, spiders, and other small invertebrates, supplementing their diet with fruits and berries, especially outside the breeding season.
