Family Tyrannidae comprises the tyrant flycatchers, the largest family of birds in the Americas and one of the largest bird families in the world, with more than 450 species. Tyrannids range from southern Canada to Tierra del Fuego and occupy nearly every habitat, including tropical rainforests, dry forests, deserts, grasslands, wetlands, mountains, mangroves, and urban areas. Members of this family are generally small to medium-sized birds characterized by broad, flattened bills often fringed with bristles, adaptations that help them capture insects in flight.
