Ferns of Zihuatanejo

FAMILY PTERIDACEAE

Family Pteridaceae, commonly known as the brake fern family, is a large and diverse family of ferns comprising more than 1,200 species in over 50 genera, distributed worldwide from tropical rainforests to temperate woodlands, deserts, and rocky cliffs. Members of this family display remarkable diversity in form and habitat, ranging from delicate maidenhair ferns to drought-tolerant cliff ferns and aquatic species. They are characterized by fronds that are often finely divided, with spores produced in sporangia located along the leaf margins or undersides, frequently protected by the rolled edge of the frond.
