Bees of Zihuatanejo

EPIFAMILY ANTHOPHILA

Guerrero's varied landscapes—including Pacific coastal plains, tropical dry forests, cloud forests, pine-oak mountains, and agricultural valleys—support a rich bee fauna composed of both solitary and social species. The region is home to members of major bee families such as Apidae, Halictidae, Megachilidae, Andrenidae, and Colletidae. Notable bees include honey bees (Apis), bumble bees (Bombus), orchid bees (Euglossa), carpenter bees (Xylocopa), leafcutter bees (Megachile), and numerous stingless bees.
