Order Coraciiformes is a diverse group of brightly colored birds that includes kingfishers, bee-eaters, rollers, motmots, todies, and several related families. Found across much of the world, especially in tropical and subtropical regions, these birds occupy a wide range of habitats including forests, wetlands, savannas, rivers, and coastal areas. Coraciiform birds are generally characterized by large heads, strong bills, short legs, and syndactyl feet, in which some of the toes are partially fused. Many species are renowned for their vivid plumage and spectacular aerial abilities. Diets vary among families but typically include insects, fish, reptiles, amphibians, and other small animals.
