​Family Hirundinidae is the swallow and martin family, a group of small, agile aerial insectivores found on every continent except Antarctica. Members of this family are superb fliers, characterized by streamlined bodies, long pointed wings, short bills with wide gapes, and often forked tails that enhance maneuverability in flight. They spend much of their time on the wing, capturing flying insects such as flies, mosquitoes, beetles, and moths. Hirundinids inhabit a wide variety of open habitats, including grasslands, wetlands, farmlands, coastlines, mountains, and urban areas.
