The family Troglodytidae, commonly known as the wrens, is a family of small, active songbirds found primarily in the Americas, with a few species occurring in Europe, Asia, and Africa. Comprising nearly 100 species, wrens are characterized by their compact bodies, short rounded wings, slender slightly curved bills, and tails that are often held upright. Despite their small size and generally inconspicuous brown, gray, or rufous plumage, wrens are renowned for their remarkably loud, complex, and melodious songs. They inhabit a wide variety of environments, including forests, scrublands, grasslands, deserts, wetlands, and urban gardens, where they forage energetically for insects, spiders, and other small invertebrates among vegetation, bark, and leaf litter.
