Panama Pearl Oyster
Pinctada mazatlanica
The Panama Pearl Oyster (Pinctada mazatlanica) is a species of pearl oyster in the family Pteriidae. It is known for producing high-quality pearls and is found in the eastern Pacific Ocean, particularly along the coasts of Mexico, Central America, and northern South America. Inhabits rocky reefs and sandy seabeds, often at depths of 2–30 meters (7–98 feet).Historically harvested for natural pearls, but today it is mainly used in pearl aquaculture.
