SUPERFAMILY PAPILIONOIDEA

Burns' Checkered Skipper

Burnsius burnsi

Burnsius burnsi, commonly known as Burns’ Checkered Skipper, is a small butterfly in the family Hesperiidae. It belongs to a group of “checkered skippers” recognized for their bold dark brown-and-white patterned wings, which create a striking checkerboard appearance. This species is found primarily in Mexico, often inhabiting dry open areas, grasslands, and scrub habitats. Like other skippers, it has a quick, darting flight and is often seen flying low over vegetation or perching briefly on grasses and small plants.
