SUPERFAMILY PAPILIONOIDEA

Clito congruens

Clito congruens

Clito congruens is a spread-wing skipper in the family Hesperiidae, placed within the subfamily Pyrginae and tribe Pyrgini. Unlike many skippers that hold their wings partially closed, members of this group typically rest with wings fully spread, giving them a more moth-like appearance. Its mottled brown and grey tones that provide effective camouflage when the butterfly is at rest on bark or leaves. Clito congruens is found in Mexico and Central America, where it inhabits forests, woodland edges, and shaded clearings. It is often seen perching on leaves or tree trunks with wings spread flat, occasionally making short, quick flights before settling again.
