SUPERFAMILY PAPILIONOIDEA

Tiger Mimic-Queen

Lycorea halia

The Tiger Mimic-Queen (Lycorea halia) is a large, vibrant butterfly known for its striking orange and black striped pattern, which closely resembles that of a tiger. It is a member of the Nymphalidae family (brush-footed butterflies) and is primarily found in tropical rainforests spanning from Mexico to Peru and the Caribbean. It shares its "tiger" pattern with other toxic or unpalatable butterflies, which reinforces a collective warning to predators that this specific colour scheme means "danger" or "bad taste".
