Tromba xantha
-
The Tromba xantha is a small skipper butterfly in the family Hesperiidae found in tropical regions of the Americas, including Mexico, Central America, and parts of northern South America. Like other skippers, it has a compact, thick-bodied form with relatively short wings and antennae that end in distinctive hooked clubs. The wings are typically dark brown to chocolate colored, sometimes marked with faint pale or translucent spots, while the species name xantha (“yellow”) refers to a subtle yellowish tone that may appear near the hindwing margin or underside. Adults fly rapidly with the characteristic darting, skipping flight that gives skippers their common name, often staying close to low vegetation where they visit flowers for nectar.
