SUPERFAMILY PAPILIONOIDEA

White-tipped Metalmark

Melanis acroleuca

Melanis acroleuca, commonly known as the White-tipped Metalmark, is a striking butterfly in the family Riodinidae. It is easily recognized by its bold contrast between dark wings and bright white tips, making it one of the more conspicuous metalmarks. It typically rests with its wings spread flat or cocked slightly. Many tropical metalmarks are known for perching on the underside of leaves, often in an upside-down orientation. This species is found in Mexico and Central America, inhabiting tropical forests, edges, and clearings.
