Grass Skipper Butterflies of Zihuatanejo

GENUS CYMAENES

Genus Cymaenes is a large genus of grass skippers in the family Hesperiidae, distributed throughout the Neotropical region from Mexico and the Caribbean to Central and South America. These butterflies are generally small and inconspicuous, with brown, grey-brown, or orange-brown wings often marked by small translucent or pale spots. Like other skippers, they possess robust bodies, hooked antennae, and rapid, darting flight patterns that make them challenging to observe. Cymaenes species inhabit grasslands, forest edges, tropical dry forests, savannas, wetlands, and disturbed habitats, where adults visit flowers for nectar and frequently perch on grasses or low vegetation.
