Grass Skipper Butterflies of Zihuatanejo

GENUS CARYSTUS

Genus Carystus is a genus of medium-sized skipper butterflies in the family Hesperiidae, distributed from Mexico and Central America through much of tropical South America. Members of this genus are typically dark brown to black with translucent or pale yellowish spots on the wings and are characterized by the strong, rapid flight typical of skippers. Carystus species are most commonly found in tropical forests, forest edges, secondary growth, and moist woodland habitats, where adults visit flowers for nectar and often perch on sunlit leaves.
