Grass Skipper Butterflies of Zihuatanejo

GENUS ZARIASPES

Genus Zariaspes is a small genus of Neotropical skipper butterflies in the family Hesperiidae, occurring from Mexico and Central America into parts of South America. These butterflies are generally medium-sized and are characterized by dark brown to black wings marked with pale, cream-colored, or translucent spots that contrast with their darker background coloration. Like other skippers, they possess stout bodies, hooked antennae, and a rapid, darting flight that makes them challenging to follow in the field. Zariaspes species are typically found in tropical forests, woodland edges, secondary growth, and tropical dry forest habitats, where adults visit flowers for nectar and frequently perch on low vegetation in sunny clearings.
