Genus Hylephila
Genus Hylephila is a genus of small grass skippers in the family Hesperiidae, distributed primarily in the Americas and best known for the widespread Fiery Skipper. These butterflies are characterized by their compact bodies, hooked antennae, and rapid, skipping flight. Males are often bright orange to golden-orange with dark markings, while females tend to be darker and more heavily patterned. Hylephila species are commonly found in grasslands, parks, gardens, agricultural areas, roadsides, and other open habitats where their caterpillars feed on a variety of grasses. Adults frequently visit flowers for nectar and can be especially abundant in warm climates.
