Family Microhylidae, commonly known as the narrow-mouthed frogs, is a large and diverse family of amphibians within the order Anura, comprising more than 700 species distributed throughout tropical and subtropical regions of the world, including the Americas, Africa, Asia, Madagascar, and Australia. Members of this family are generally small to medium-sized frogs characterized by a compact body, short limbs, a narrow mouth, and a rounded head. Many species are specialized feeders that primarily consume ants and termites, possessing adaptations such as a protrusible tongue and reduced dentition. Microhylids occupy a wide variety of habitats, including rainforests, grasslands, wetlands, and underground burrows, with many species leading secretive or fossorial lifestyles.
