Arachnids (Class Arachnida)

Class Arachnida is a diverse class of arthropods within the phylum Arthropoda that includes spiders, scorpions, ticks, mites, harvestmen, pseudoscorpions, and several other groups. Arachnids are primarily terrestrial and are characterized by having two main body regions—the cephalothorax (prosoma) and abdomen (opisthosoma)—along with four pairs of walking legs, no antennae, and specialized mouthparts called chelicerae. Most arachnids are predators that feed on insects and other small animals, although some species are parasites, scavengers, or herbivores.
