CLASS CHLOROPHYCEAE

Class Chlorophyceae is one of the largest and most diverse classes within the phylum Chlorophyta (green algae), consisting primarily of freshwater species, although some occur in marine and terrestrial habitats. Members of this class range from unicellular and colonial forms to filamentous and multicellular algae.

Chlorophyceae are important primary producers in aquatic ecosystems, contributing to oxygen production and serving as a food source for numerous organisms.
