GENUS POMPEIUS
- Grass Skippers (Subfamily Hesperiinae)
-
Genus Pompeius
Genus Pompeius is a genus of grass skippers in the family Hesperiidae, distributed from the southern United States and Mexico through Central America, the Caribbean, and much of tropical South America. These butterflies are generally medium-sized, with dark brown wings marked by subtle pale spots or translucent markings and the sturdy bodies typical of skippers. Members of Pompeius are strong, fast fliers that inhabit grasslands, marshes, woodland edges, tropical dry forests, agricultural areas, and other open habitats. Adults commonly visit flowers for nectar and often fly low over grasses and low vegetation.
