White Butterflies of Zihuatanejo

GENUS ASCIA

Genus Ascia is a genus of medium- to large-sized white butterflies in the subfamily Pierinae of the family Pieridae, distributed from the southern United States and Mexico through Central America, the Caribbean, and much of South America. Members of this genus are predominantly white with black, gray, or dark brown markings along the wing margins and tips, giving them a clean but striking appearance in flight. They are strong, active fliers commonly found in coastal habitats, tropical dry forests, open woodlands, agricultural areas, gardens, and disturbed landscapes.
