Genus Eleutherodactylus is one of the largest genera of frogs, belonging to the family Eleutherodactylidae. Commonly known as rain frogs, robber frogs, or coquí frogs, its members are distributed primarily throughout the Caribbean, Central America, northern South America, and parts of North America. These frogs are generally small to medium-sized and are especially notable for their direct development, a reproductive strategy in which eggs hatch directly into miniature froglets without a free-swimming tadpole stage. This adaptation allows them to reproduce in moist terrestrial habitats without requiring standing water.

​Eleutherodactylus is endemic to Guerrero and is the the only genus of Rain Frog found in the Zihuatanejo area.
