Family Riodinidae, commonly known as the metalmark butterflies, is a family of butterflies within the superfamily Papilionoidea comprising more than 1,500 species, most of which occur in the tropical regions of Central and South America. Members of this family are generally small to medium-sized butterflies distinguished by the metallic, silver, gold, or iridescent markings that often decorate their wings, giving rise to their common name.
