Family Hylidae, commonly known as the tree frogs and their allies, is one of the largest and most diverse families of amphibians in the order Anura. Members of this family are widely distributed throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Australia, inhabiting forests, wetlands, grasslands, and tropical rainforests. Hylids are typically characterized by slender bodies, long hind limbs, and adhesive toe pads that enable many species to climb and live among vegetation. Although many members are arboreal, some species are terrestrial or aquatic. Reproduction generally involves external fertilization, with eggs laid in water, on vegetation, or in specialized nests depending on the species.
