The Black Pondhawk (Erythemis attala) is a dragonfly of tropical and subtropical wetlands, best known for the adult male’s deep black coloration and bold territorial behaviour. Females are brown to olive with distinct yellow or pale striping on the thorax. Aerial predators feeding on mosquitoes, flies, and other small insects.
