Dragonflies and Damselflies (Order Odonata)
The Red Pondhawk (Erythemis haematogastra) is a bold, medium-to-large skimmer dragonfly known for the male’s vivid red coloration and its habit of perching conspicuously around ponds and wetlands. Males aggressively defend small sections of shoreline, chasing away other dragonflies. Capture flying insects such as mosquitoes, flies, and small bees.
