The Central American rock-boring urchin (Echinometra vanbrunti) is a species of sea urchin in the family Echinometridae. It is found in the Pacific Ocean near Central America.This is an epibenthic species found on coral reefs in subtidal areas at depths of 0 to 53 m. They are grazers that will roam about searching for food and algae on rocks. The spines and body are dark purple to black in color. These Sea Urchins have a maximum diameter of 7.0 cm (2.75 inches) and a spine length up to 6.3 cm (2.5 inches).
