Ganoderma fungi typically have a woody, shelf-like fruiting body. The cap is often reddish-brown, shiny, and varnished-looking. They usually grow on dead or decaying wood, especially hardwoods. Belongs to the group of polypores, which have pores (not gills) on the underside of the cap where spores are released.
