Daldinia is a genus of fungi in the family Hypoxylaceae, best known for species that form rounded, woody fruiting bodies on dead or dying wood. These fungi are saprotrophic, meaning they help break down and recycle dead wood in forest ecosystems. Initially purplish-brown, maturing to black or dark brown. Spores are released through surface pores and are often black and soot-like.
