Description

• Emericellopsis is a genus of filamentous fungi in the family Clavicipitaceae. Species form microscopic, thread-like hyphae and produce specialised reproductive structures and spores. Some species have been recognised primarily from their asexual or culture stages, and several produce distinctive secondary metabolites. The genus is closely associated with fungi that live on or in organic substrates and can have complex life cycles.

Range

• Emericellopsis has a broad distribution and species have been found in terrestrial and marine-associated environments in temperate, subtropical, and tropical regions. The genus occurs in Mexico, including the Pacific coastal region, and may occur around Zihuatanejo wherever suitable organic substrates and humid conditions are present.

Habitat

• Species have been isolated from soil, decaying plant material, marine environments, and other organic substrates. They can occur in forest soils, leaf litter, decomposing vegetation, and coastal habitats, where fungal growth is favoured by moisture and available organic material.
