Chrysothrix (Genus)

Description
Chrysothrix is a genus of crustose lichens in the family Chrysotrichaceae. Species form thin, powdery to granular crusts on bark, rock, and other exposed surfaces, often producing vivid yellow, golden-yellow, or yellow-green patches. The colour is commonly produced by secondary lichen compounds and makes many species conspicuous against darker substrates.
Range
Chrysothrix has a broad distribution in tropical, subtropical, and temperate regions of the world. Several species occur in Mexico, including along the Pacific coast and in Guerrero, and Chrysothrix may be encountered around Zihuatanejo where suitable shaded or humid substrates are present.
Habitat
Species commonly grow on tree bark, exposed wood, rocks, and other relatively stable substrates. In tropical regions they are often associated with humid forest, woodland, shaded tree trunks, branches, and sheltered rock surfaces, although some species tolerate more exposed conditions.
