Lentinus (Genus)

Description
Lentinus is a genus of wood-decaying mushrooms in the family Polyporaceae. Fruiting bodies typically have tough, leathery to fibrous caps that are convex to funnel-shaped, often with scales or hairs on the surface, and sturdy stems. The undersurface bears closely spaced, sometimes toothed or elongated gills, a feature that distinguishes Lentinus from many other polypores.
Range
Lentinus has a broad distribution, with species occurring mainly in tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas, Africa, Asia, and Australasia. The genus occurs in Mexico, including Guerrero and the Pacific coastal region, and species may be encountered around Zihuatanejo where suitable woody substrates are present.
Habitat
Species grow primarily on dead or decaying wood, including fallen logs, branches, stumps, and woody plant debris. They are particularly associated with forests and woodland habitats but may also occur in gardens, agricultural areas, and other places where suitable hardwood material is available.
