Abracrini (Tribe)

Description
Abracrini is a tribe of scarab beetles in the family Scarabaeidae, subfamily Rutelinae. Members are generally small to medium-sized beetles with the compact, oval body typical of ruteline scarabs. Many have smooth, often glossy surfaces and may show dark, brown, reddish, yellowish, or metallic colouration. The tribe includes the genus Abracris and related forms.
Range
Abracrini is primarily distributed in the tropical and subtropical Americas, with species occurring from Mexico through Central America and into South America. The tribe is represented in Mexico, including Guerrero and the Pacific coastal region, and members may be encountered around Zihuatanejo in suitable habitats.
Habitat
Adults are associated with a variety of warm terrestrial habitats, including tropical dry forest, humid forest, scrub, woodland edges, gardens, and agricultural areas. They are commonly associated with vegetation and may be encountered on foliage, flowers, and woody plants, particularly during warm and humid conditions.
Diet
Adults are primarily herbivorous, feeding on leaves, flowers, pollen, fruit, or other plant material depending on the species. Larvae generally develop in soil or decomposing organic material and feed on roots, decaying vegetation, and other organic matter.
