Description

• Anolis nebulosus is a small to medium-sized anole in the family Dactyloidae, commonly called the cloudy anole. It has a slender body, long limbs, a long tail, and a prominent throat fan (dewlap). Colouration is variable, typically grey, brown, or olive with irregular darker mottling that provides camouflage against bark and foliage. Males are generally larger and have a more conspicuous dewlap than females.

Range

• Anolis nebulosus is endemic to western Mexico, occurring along the Pacific slope. Its range includes the Zihuatanejo region.

Habitat

• It inhabits tropical dry forest, thorn forest, woodland, scrub, forest edges, plantations, and disturbed vegetation, from low elevations into foothill areas. It is primarily arboreal and is commonly found on tree trunks, branches, shrubs, and other elevated surfaces.

Diet

• Anolis nebulosus is primarily insectivorous, feeding on small arthropods such as insects, spiders, and other invertebrates. It hunts by watching from a perch and quickly lunging at suitable prey.
