Chitons are often referred to as "sea cradles" due to their distinctive, oval-shaped, flat bodies that cling tightly to rocks in intertidal zones. Like other chitons, Chiton articulatus is a herbivore, primarily grazing on algae that grow on the rocks where they live. They use their radula, a specialized scraping organ, to remove algae from the surface of rocks.
