Description
Racopilum is a genus of pleurocarpous mosses in the family Racopilaceae. Species form creeping, branched mats with slender stems and distinctive leaves that are often arranged in two rows along the branches, giving the shoots a flattened appearance. The leaves are generally lance-shaped to ovate-lanceolate and may be glossy green to yellowish or brownish-green when dry.
Range
Racopilum has a broad distribution in tropical and subtropical regions, with species occurring in the Americas, Africa, Asia, Australia, and the Pacific. The genus occurs in the Zihuatanejo area of Guerrero, Mexico.
Habitat
These mosses typically grow on moist bark, tree trunks, branches, roots, and rocks in humid forests and shaded woodland. They are particularly associated with surfaces that retain moisture and can form extensive mats over bark, rocks, and other stable substrates.
