Description

• Octoblepharum albidum is a small, pale-green to whitish moss in the family Octoblepharaceae. It forms loose to dense cushions or tufts of upright, slender shoots, with narrow lance-shaped leaves that are often whitish or silvery because of their thickened cell walls. The plants are typically only a few centimetres tall and may produce slender stalks bearing small, spherical to oval capsules.

Range

• Octoblepharum albidum is a widespread tropical and subtropical moss occurring throughout much of the Americas, as well as parts of Africa, Asia, and other warm regions. It occurs in the Zihuatanejo area of Guerrero, Mexico.

Habitat

• This species commonly grows on tree trunks, branches, roots, and occasionally rocks in tropical and subtropical forests, woodland, and other humid habitats. It tolerates periods of drying and is often found in exposed positions where moisture fluctuates, including disturbed vegetation and shaded urban environments.
