Description

• Argyrogramma verruca is a medium-sized moth in the family Noctuidae, subfamily Plusiinae. Adults have brownish to grey-brown forewings with distinctive metallic-silver markings, including pale lines and patches that contrast with the darker ground colour. The wingspan is generally about 30–35 mm. The caterpillar is typically green with pale longitudinal striping and a characteristic looping gait caused by reduced abdominal prolegs.

Range

• Argyrogramma verruca occurs in the warmer parts of the Americas, ranging from the southern United States through Mexico and Central America into northern South America. It occurs in western Mexico, including Zihuatanejo, Guerrero.

Habitat

• It inhabits tropical and subtropical forest, seasonally dry woodland, scrub, agricultural areas, gardens, and disturbed vegetation. Adults are nocturnal and commonly visit artificial lights, while larvae feed openly on foliage.

Diet

• The caterpillars are herbivorous and feed on a variety of broad-leaved plants, including members of the bean and other herbaceous plant families. Adults primarily obtain nectar and other liquid plant resources.
