Falcifera Sphinx Moth
Callionima falcifera
The Falcifera Sphinx Moth (Callionima falcifera) is a sleek, medium-to-large hawkmoth in the family Sphingidae. This species is characterized by long, narrow forewings with a gently curved, falcate (sickle-like) tip—an attribute reflected in its scientific name. The ground color ranges from olive brown to grayish-tan, overlaid with fine darker lines and muted shading that provide excellent camouflage against bark and foliage. The hindwings are shorter and broader, often showing warmer brown or smoky tones with faint banding. When at rest, the moth holds its wings close to the body, giving it a tapered, aerodynamic profile. Adults typically have a wingspan of about 7–9 cm (2.75–3.5 inches).
