Centipedes and Millipedes of Zihuatanejo
SUBPHYLUM MYRIAPODA
Snake Millipede
Julida
These millipedes typically have smooth, segmented bodies with two pairs of legs per segment, giving them a slow, gliding motion as they navigate through leaf litter and soil. They are detritivores, feeding on decaying plant material and playing a crucial role in nutrient cycling and soil health. Julidans often possess defensive glands that release chemicals, such as benzoquinones, to deter predators. Their subdued coloration, usually brown or black, helps them blend into their environment.
