Lithothamnion is a genus of crustose reef-forming red algae in the family Corallinaceae. It absorbs minerals from seawater.

Description
• Galaxauraceae is a family of red algae in the order Nemaliales. Members are marine algae with branched, often cylindrical or slightly calcified thalli that may feel firm or brittle. Their colours range from reddish-brown to pinkish or purplish, and their branching forms vary among genera and species. Unlike land plants, these algae lack true roots, stems, and leaves, attaching to hard surfaces with a basal holdfast.
Range
• Galaxauraceae is present along the coast near Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico. The family is distributed mainly in tropical and subtropical marine waters around the world, particularly in the Indo-Pacific and other warm-water regions.
Habitat
• Members of Galaxauraceae grow attached to rocky shores, coral rubble, and other hard substrates in shallow marine environments. They are commonly found on reef flats, in tide pools, and in subtidal habitats where sufficient light reaches the seabed. Their abundance depends on water movement, light, temperature, and the availability of suitable attachment surfaces.
