Marsh Beetles
Ora (Genus)
The Marsh Beetle (Genus Ora) is a small, aquatic or semi-aquatic beetle belonging to the family Scirtidae, commonly known as marsh beetles. Species in the genus Ora are typically found in wetlands such as marshes, swamps, and along the edges of ponds and slow-moving streams, where they thrive in moist, vegetation-rich environments. These beetles are usually tiny, oval-shaped, and somewhat flattened, with colors ranging from brown to dark reddish or black, helping them blend into muddy or plant-covered habitats. The larvae are aquatic and play an important ecological role by feeding on decaying plant material and algae, contributing to nutrient recycling in wetland ecosystems. Adults are often attracted to damp areas and may be seen resting on emergent vegetation.
