Diet

• Adults and nymphs: Predatory, feeding on a variety of other insects and small arthropods.

• They use their piercing-sucking rostrum to stab prey and inject saliva that immobilises and begins digesting the prey before the liquefied contents are consumed.

Range

• Sinea spinipes belongs to the family Reduviidae, subfamily Harpactorinae, tribe Harpactorini, and genus Sinea.

• Around Zihua, it would likely be considered occasional. 

Habitat

• S. spinipes occurs in open fields, grassy and weedy areas, woodland borders and forested areas.

• A detailed life-history study found adults and nymphs on vegetation along roadsides within forests, in open fields beneath or near scattered trees, and along forest edges.

• It appears to favour shaded vegetation, particularly foliage along woodland margins and within forests.

• Around Zihua, potential habitat would include tropical dry-forest edges, shaded scrub, roadsides, gardens and areas of dense low vegetation where suitable insect prey is abundant.

Size

• Adults are approximately 12–15 mm long.

• The body is elongated and somewhat robust, with the long legs and antennae typical of Harpactorini.

• The front legs are prominently spined, while the front femora are thickened, granulated and also armed with spines. These features are characteristic of Sinea.
